APOCALYPTIC APE

Whether the end of humanity comes via ape (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES), by zombie (THE WALKING DEAD, 28 DAYS LATER), by vampire (DAYBREAKERS, STAKE LAND), by Anti-Christ (THE BIBLE), or by no specified reason whatsoever (THE ROAD)…one thing is clear. We love our apocalyptic stories. The annihilation of humanity is always a good thing…on the page and screen that is. But why? Perhaps at a subconscious level we fear the potential inevitability of a large-scale culling. Maybe we ponder our own reaction and behavior during such a grotesque ordeal. Possibly, we look to those stories as a macabre form of research in order prepare, at least mentally, for the next Hurricane Katrina, or the next big tornado system, or the next 9.0 trembler and subsequent tsunami. How will we react when all fabric of society and human decency breaks down and everything devolves into an everyman for himself nightmare? After hearing about people trampling and attacking each other over discounted toys on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving and most frantic shopping mall day of the year), that may provide a clue about what to expect when humanity reaches its nadir. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is the latest tale of this kind, and one of the most intriguing because, it shows both ends of the spectrum at once. We see our present-day humanity...

DELIVER US FROM EVIL

Greetings Horror Fans, Horror is dead. Forget DELIVER US FROM EVIL, how about just delivering us from horror movie cliches instead? How about delivering us from main characters who don’t believe in the “paranormal”, even as supernatural happenings are going down before their very eyes? How about delivering us from jump scares which don’t have much to do with anything except poor directing? How about delivering us from scared little kids hearing demonic noises beneath their beds? How about delivering us from lame, derivative exorcism scenes which we’ve seen over and over and over since 1973, all of which fail to measure up to the original: i.e. THE EXORCIST? How about delivering us from insecure writing, which is only capable of reheating the same, old story leftovers, again and again and again? Instead, how about delivering us to evil with fresh stories which take us somewhere we’ve never been? How about delivering us to evil by reinventing all those tired, overdone horror sub-genres which keep churning out more of the same; never ceasing to disappoint? How about letting COLDROCK deliver us to evil by reinventing every horror sub-genre? First up, is the werewolf sub-genre. SIREN...

SIREN MOON Prologue 2

Its booming howl devolves into a macabre dissonance of seething diabolic fury before it tears through like a butchering wind, spattering the bloodied gobs and shards of fleeing prey. Its incensed fury withers the soul as its claws and jaws rip, eviscerate, and gorge with near-merciful speed, poetic efficiency, and absolute finality. Sadistic it is not…unless crossed. And the lack of a robust moon will not save you. SIREN...
